About Pond Hill Farm LLC: We are a small, gay owned/operated farm located 35 miles north of Pittsburgh.  We grow market garden style, bio-intensive two acre veggies and cut flowers. We are Certified Naturally Grown (similar growing practices to organic) and believe in human powered food.




Job Summary: Farm crew members will be competent at various tasks outside in the field including bed prep, planting, cultivating/weeding, irrigation management, harvesting, and conditioning vegetables and cut flowers. 8 hour shifts. Physically demanding, at times.  All employees who work 16 or more hours/week must be competent with working farmers markets including set up. 




Key responsibilities:

  1. Crew members will assist in various farm tasks around the farm including bed prep, planting, cultivating/weeding, and irrigation management. 

  2. Each crew member will take on individual responsibilities suited to their interests and skills, but should also be expected to help out in any/all field tasks. 

  3. Crew members will assist on harvest days, harvesting/conditioning/packing both veggies and cut flowers, and assembling CSA shares.

  4. All employees who work 16 or more hours/week must be competent with working farmers markets, including set up and customer service.






Person specification

  • Essential Skills

    • Physical requirement

      • Must be able to lift 50lbs

      • Must be able to spend hours repeatedly kneeling, bending, squating.

      • Must be willing to work outdoors in nearly all weather conditions—rain, sun, wind, mud, snow, heat, cold.

    • Experienced in farming, gardening, plants, flowers, and nature. 1(or more) year in vegetable farming preferred.

      • Farming experience not required. We accept all resumes.

    • Capable of working around nature—including spiders, rodents, and occasional snakes.

    • Capable of basic arithmetic and making change for farmers market orders.




  • Essential Attributes

    • Be self motivated to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.

    • Capable of receiving critiques and changing techniques in real time.

    • Finds inspiration from nature, Earth, and food.

    • Works well both independently or with a group.

    • Strong work ethic.

    • Punctual.

    • Loves working hard and having a good time while doing so.



Compensation

  • Starting at $15/hour

    • Higher compensation for farm experience.

    • Direct deposit pay bi weekly.

  • No overtime. No benefits. 

  • Full time/part time positions currently available. Monday-Friday, somewhat flexible hours. Shifts will include occasional Saturday morning markets. 

  • All open shifts are seasonal (roughly APR-NOV)

  • Will need additional seasonal help JUL-OCT
