CSA 2023 INFO

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is an opportunity for community members to pledge support to a local farm by becoming share members of the growing season. Both farmer and share member will have a shared commitment for the growing season as detailed below.

PHF commitment

Sustainability:  Sustainability is a top priority of PHF. We don’t use any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. We rarely use organic pesticides as they too can be harmful to native pollinators. We use organic seed/plant sources whenever possible, always GMO free. We use various techniques to minimize soil erosion, soil compaction, habitat loss, and are committed to a carbon neutral world.

Transparency: PHF has an open door policy with all of its share members. All share members are welcome to come and see the space where their food is grown–by appointment only. The farm is our home too.

Quality: We strive for top quality produce. The quality of our produce is the number one compliment we receive. Guaranteed to be fresh. When vegetables taste better, they are easier to incorporate into your diet.

Variety: Different types of vegetables require different types of weather. As the seasons change, so does availability. We have spent the last 5 years trialing tons of crops, and are excited for our 2023 crop plans:

June: lettuce, spinach, arugula, kale, swiss chard, radishes, beets, peas (later), zucchini (later), summer squash (later), bok choy, kohlrabi (later), spring onions

July: lettuce, kale, swiss chard, radishes, beets, carrots, peas (early), green beans, zucchini, summer squash, cabbage, broccoli, fresh onions, sweet onions, new potatoes, fennel, cucumbers

August: lettuce, kale, radish, beets, carrots, onions, sweet onions, scallions, green beans, zucchini, summer squash, bell peppers, auxiliary peppers (shishitos, poblanos, banana, jalapeños, other hots), heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, new potatoes, cucumbers

September: lettuce, kale, radish, beets, carrots, onions, scallions, green beans, zucchini, summer squash, bell peppers, auxiliary peppers, cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, cucumbers, fall squash

October: lettuce, kale, spinach, arugula, bok choy, radish, beets, carrots, onions, scallions, green beans, bell peppers, auxiliary peppers, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, fall squash

*CSA boxes will be filled prior to market, meaning they will have priority on products with limited supply.

** KEEP IN MIND THIS LIST IS NOT DEFINITE. All these crops are plants and are at risk from inclement weather, pest infestation, and disease. We grow a large variety to account for crop failures/delays.

**Things we do not grow and will not be part of the CSA:  fruit, corn, garlic, eggplant**

Community: We really want to foster a sense of belonging with our share members. We respect your commitment to local agriculture, and want to see you have the best experience over the season. We encourage all our share members to come out and volunteer on the farm and get to see where your food comes from. You will receive weekly short emails of farm life, recipes, and what's in the CSA that week.

Unable to pick up your subscription? PLEASE GIVE US AT LEAST 24 HOUR NOTICE IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PICK UP YOUR VEGGIE BOX. If you give us 24 hour notice you then have the following options:

  1. Have someone else pick up your box. Please let us know who will be picking up for you that week.
  2. Pick up the following day on the farm. Please contact us before you come.
  3. Pick up at one of our other drop offs that same week. Again, please let us know that you’ll be picking up on a different day that week.
  4. Donate that week’s veggie box. We work with our local food bank for donations, and would be happy to include your veggie box if you are unable to pick it up.

We do not offer home deliveries at this time.

There will be no cancellations due to inclement weather on CSA pick up days.

No refunds or substitutions.

Share risk: CSA members do hold a shared risk for crop failures. We expect each year to have a small amount of crop failure and plant a wide variety to account for this. In our experience on a well diversified farm, we have seen when one crop fails another one flourishes. Your CSA boxes will reflect this.
